Every baseball player at Serra High School is familiar with the name Frisella. Danny Frisella ‘63  pitched with distinction for the Padres and also starred at the College of San Mateo for County Hall of Fame coach John Noce.

Frisella broke into the major leagues with the Mets at only 21 in 1967 and was up and down for three seasons. The 6-foot right-hander was 3-10 through 1969, primarily as a starter, before becoming a full-time reliever in 1970.

Frisella was 8-3 in 1970 and 8-5 with a 1.98 earned-run average and 12 saves in 1971 while pitching in a combined 83 in his two best seasons in New York. He also played with the Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers. His record was 34-40 with 57 saves and a 3.32 earned-run average in 351 games.
Danny played with and became friendly with two of the greatest names in baseball history - Hank Aaron, the career record-holder for home runs, and Nolan Ryan, the career record-setter for strikeouts.

Tragically, Frisella died at 30 in a dune buggy accident in Arizona on New Year's Day, 1977. But he left a legacy of love - for the game and his family. Danny and his wife, Pam, had only seven years together, "but they were a wonderful seven years. Pam stayed in the area after Danny's death and reared two children, both of whom became standout Serra athletes.

Jason played third base as a senior on Serra's 1991 Central Coast Section championship baseball team. Daniel, who was born on his father’s birthday in 1977, was a lineman as a senior on Serra's 1994 football team.

Frisella was inducted into the San Mateo County Hall of Fame in 1999.
