The Serra water polo team, which was making its first Central Coast Section championship match appearance since 1994, was less than a minute away from the program's first-ever CCS polo title. In a heartbreaking loss in overtime, the Padres were defeated by the No. 1 seed Los Altos Eagles 9-7. Los Altos held a slim 4-3 lead at halftime, but Serra took the lead in the second half.

The Padres had a one point lead in the final quarter with only 45 seconds left to play, but the Eagles tied it up to take the match into overtime. In the first possession of overtime, Los Altos scored a goal and added another one a few minutes later to seal the win.
