This season has been one of triumph for the Serra Padre Wrestling team, who have had an incredible showing in various competitions and captured the outright WCAL Team Championship with a thrilling final match home victory against Bellarmine in a packed Morton Family Gymnasium on February 5, 2025.
At the WCAL playoffs, the team had six individual WCAL champions, the most in the school's history. At the CCS Championships, Serra Wrestling proved they were a force to be reckoned with, securing an impressive fourth-place finish as a team. Individually the team qualified 14 wrestlers for sectional and of those 14, 12 advanced as CCS Masters qualifiers. The team earned a total of six CCS medals, a feat that has the entire Serra community buzzing with excitement!
Among the individual standouts, several Serra wrestlers made their mark:
Sebastian Garcia, earning a second-place finish at 144 lbs.
Preston Dixon, also securing second place at 215 lbs.
Ryder Doleschal, capturing third place at 106 lbs.
Patrick Turk, finishing fourth at 138 lbs.
Elliot Schnelker, taking home fifth at 165 lbs.
Trevor Wilson, rounding out the impressive performances with a sixth-place finish at 285 lbs.
Serra wrestling is setting new records and continuing to make history, with four of its wrestlers (Garcia, Dixon, Doleschal and Turk) heading to the prestigious state championships in Bakersfield, accompanied with a special police escort.
It's not every day that high school student athletes get a police escort for their accomplishments, and it speaks to the immense respect the community has for Serra Wrestling and their achievements," said Serra President Mike Fadelli '88. "We are excited for these young men and their coaches."
These exceptional athletes have earned their spot in the upcoming state championships, where they'll compete against the best in the state, showcasing their talent and determination.
The road to the state championships has been paved with hard work, grit, and countless hours of practice. These wrestlers are not just athletes—they're champions in the making, and the entire Serra community is behind them every step of the way.
