Serra is proud to announce that alumnus Nick Carrara '09 has been named the new head coach of the varsity soccer program.

A lifelong soccer player and coach, Carrara brings more than 15 years of coaching experience to the Padres, including a decade on Serra's own sidelines at the freshman, JV, and varsity levels. A former scholarship athlete and center back at San José State University, Carrara also competed professionally in the United Soccer League with the Kitsap Pumas and later with the Burlingame Dragons.

"We are excited to welcome Coach Nick Carrara back to Serra," said Athletics Director Justin Ferdinand. "As an alumnus, he knows firsthand the tradition and pride of our program, and his coaching experience and leadership will be invaluable in guiding our student-athletes both on and off the field."

Carrara describes his coaching philosophy as effort-driven, with a focus on character development and growth.

"My philosophy is simple—I expect players to give their best effort mentally, physically, and emotionally," he said. "That's where real growth happens. If you fail, you learn from it. If you succeed, you build confidence. Either way, giving your best is the foundation."

As a student-athlete at Serra, Carrara says the school's brotherhood and support shaped his life both on and off the field. 

"Serra soccer was one of the best times of my life," he said. "Playing with my schoolmates and building that brotherhood was incredible. Now, as a coach, I want to give that same experience back to today's Padres."

Carrara lives in Redwood City with his wife, Jennifer, and their son, Nico. He is eager to lead the Padres into a new era of competitiveness in the West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) and Central Coast Section (CCS).

"Soccer at Serra needs to be a powerhouse, just like our other sports," Carrara said. "I'm ready to bring my competitiveness, my soccer IQ and my experience as a Padre to take this program to the next level."
